Een verhaal over Kino, die de wereld rondreist met niets anders dan wapens ter bescherming en de pratende motor Hermes. Kino reist naar vele mystieke werelden, elk met zijn unieke gebruiken en mensen, en leert de wereld kennen door hun verhalen, soms met humor en inspiratie, of soms met doordringend cynisme. Kino's eigen gewoonte is echter om zonder uitzondering niet langer dan drie dagen in elke stad te blijven, omdat het genoeg tijd is om bijna alles wat belangrijk is over de plaats te leren, terwijl er toch tijd overblijft om nieuwe landen te verkennen.
