This expressionistic and interior vision of Soviet animator Kovalyov is like an animated Eraserhead. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive, Academy War Film Collection, in 2007.

The film based on the book by Eduard Uspensky "Crocodile Gena and his friends". Crocodile Gena works in a zoo - a crocodile. Every evening he returns home to his lonely apartment. Southwestern Sahara. The North Hotel, where Karbofos is hiding. He waits impatiently for a phone call, gets furious at the conditions of the hotel (flies, an idle fan) and goes crazy from the heat, as a result of which he refreshes himself in the refrigerator, from where a dazed penguin runs out due to sweaty fumes.

This animated short focuses on the lives of three eccentric people living on a farm in the Russian countryside. Told in a non-linear, stream of consciousness style, the film depicts the deceitful relationship between a master and his two servants. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in 2007.

Popular at the end of the Soviet Union and Russia's transformation to a new era was a sort of escapism into surreal animation like this one.
