比尔（拉尔夫·马奇奥 Ralph Macchio 饰）和斯坦（米歇尔·维特菲尔德 Mitchell Whitfield 饰）是一对损友，此时，他们正驾驶着汽车前往学校。这一段旅程注定不会平静，误打误撞之中，两人竟然被指控谋杀。眼看着审理日即将到来，比尔和斯坦找到了刚刚毕业的半吊子律师文森特（乔·佩西 Joe Pesci 饰），请求他为他们辩护。 令两人万万没有想到的是，文森特在法庭上的出格表现不仅没有为他们洗清罪名，文森特自己反而因为“蔑视法庭罪”而遭到监禁，而经历了如此挫折后，文森特一蹶不振，辩护水平更是大打折扣。一番波折之后，比尔和斯坦好不容易洗脱了牢狱之灾重获自由，但两人明白，只要文森特存在一天，他们的厄运就会延续一天。
