Big Brother México is a reality television series based on the international Big Brother format produced in the Netherlands by Endemol. Big Brother México was launched by Televisa in 2002. Before its debut, the idea of being watched twenty-four hours a day by a camera was shocking to some in Mexican society. The series was successful, and it was followed by a special edition called Big Brother VIP with Mexican celebrities from show business and even politics. Congressman Jorge Kahwagi, minority whip of the Mexican Green Party in the Chamber of Deputees of Mexico's Congress, shocked and angered many people in Mexico when he asked to be excused from his post in Congress to be sequestered for months inside the Big Brother House. Critics among colleagues and the general public accused him of dereliction of duty, discrediting his office, and seeking personal gain. During the show, late-night variety-show host, comedian, and producer Adal Ramones, also from Televisa, made a send-up of Big Brother which he called "El Gran Carnal" or "Big Bro" in Mexican slang. In December 2009, it was announced that there would be an "Allstars" version of Big Brother Mexico and that if it favors well with ratings, a possible fourth season will likely follow.

The title role is performed by Luis Roberto Guzmán. The series started airing on May 2007, and is filmed in Mexico City under the direction of producers Rodolfo de Anda and Alexis Ayala. It currently airs its third season Mondays on Canal 5 at 10:00pm and on cable TV channel Galavisión Tuesdays at 21:30pm. The character of El Pantera was created in the 70's by the writer Daniel Muñoz and artist Juan Alba for Mundo Vid. A novel called El Pantera, or La Noche del Pantera was written by Muñoz in the 90's, followed by El Misterio de la Amenaza Negra.

Popstars was a Mexican reality television series based on the Popstars international series. In Mexico, Popstars was broadcast on the Mexican Televisa channel in 2002. The program was discontinued after one season. In the only season of the show, candidates competed for a place in a Mexican girl pop group. The five finalists that won were Mary Betty, Christian, Lorena, Ana Brenda and Nancy. They became members of the winning girl band T' De Tila. The band had a brief success with the single "Dejarte Ir". They followed it up with a studio album T' De Tila released on 13 October 2002 that included hits like "Tomate" and "Aqui estoy" in addition to "Dejarte ir". the songs of the album were written by Áureo Baqueiro, Aleks Syntek, Mario Domm and others. Faced with mediocre reception, the group disbanded within a few months without much success. After break-up, Christian continued with a singing career in the States, María León became a vocalist of Playa Limbo, Ana Brenda Contreras branched into acting on television notably in the TV series Teresa, whereas Lorena Fajardo immigrated to Sweden marrying there and continuing her career there.
