Under det engelska inbördeskriget flyr en grupp desertörer genom ett igenvuxet fält. De blir tillfångatagna av alkemisten O'Neil och tvingas hjälpa honom i sökandet efter en skatt som han tror är begravt någonstans i fältet. Under sökandet hittar de en stor cirkel av svampar som den utsvultna gruppen äter av. Snart kastas gruppen in i ett kaos av bråk och paranoia och när det framgår att skatten kan vara någonting helt annat än guld, blir de sakta offer för det fruktansvärda som gömmer sig på fältet.
