Când Thomas se trezeşte în lift, tot ce-şi mai poate aminti e cum îl cheamă. Memoria i-a fost ştearsă. Însă nu e singur. Când uşile liftului se deschid, Thomas e înconjurat de alţi băieţi care-i fac primirea în ceea ce ei numesc Glade – un spaţiu larg, deschis, împrejmuit de imenşi pereţi de piatră. La fel ca şi Thomas, nici ceilalţi nu ştiu cum au ajuns acolo. Tot ce ştiu e că în fiecare dimineaţă uşile de piatră ale labirintului care îi înconjoară se deschid, iar noaptea se închid la loc. Şi la fiecare 30 de zile un alt băiat este adus acolo de lift. Thomas era aşteptat, aşadar. Însă a doua zi, liftul aduce o fată, prima fată care ajunge în Glade. Şi cu atât mai surprinzător, ea are un mesaj. Thomas se pare că e mult mai important decât îşi poate închipui. Cheia salvării pare a fi la el, dacă şi-ar putea aminti secretele întunecate din mintea sa.

Cu două zile înainte de nuntă, Doug și trei prieteni ai lui merg până la Las Vegas pentru o binemeritată petrecere a burlacilor. După o noapte de pomină, din care nu-și mai aduc aminte nimic, prietenii găsesc în baie un tigru, iar în șifonier un bebeluș de șase luni! Memento e preocupat de toate aspectele ei, mai ales de felul în care poate fi manipulată. Filmul lui Christopher Nolan e unul dintre acele rare și autentice triumfuri din istoria regiei de film moderne, pentru că reușește să fie inovator, proaspăt, șic și excitant, fără să-și obosească audiența. Întregul film este astfel construit încât să reflecte starea mentală a personajului principal, în același timp, lăsându-i spectatorului dreptul la o proprie perspectivă.
