Baseado em fatos reais, o filme conta parte da história da vida do neo-zelandês Burt Munro, que com sua velha moto Indian modificada, de 1920, viajou ao outro lado do mundo, para Utah, nos Estados Unidos, para tentar bater o recorde de velocidade, nos anos 1960. Desacreditado por quase todo mundo e com problemas sérios de saúde devido à idade avançada, o Munro é um exemplo de persistência e superação.
