캡틴 아메리카의 요청으로 독일까지 가서 아이언맨 일행과 싸우고 돌아온 스콧은 어느 날 이상한 꿈을 꾼다. 그가 행크 핌 박사와 호프에게 꿈 이야기를 들려주자, 호프는 미지의 양자 영역에 갇혀버린 엄마 재닛의 메시지라는 것을 확신하게 된다. 행크 핌 박사는 자신의 비밀 연구소에서 그동안 개발해왔던 양자 터널과 탐색기를 이용해 1대 와스프 재닛의 구출작전을 펼치려 하지만, 시공간의 개념이 사라진 양자 영역으로 들어갈 수 있는 기술을 훔쳐 달아난 고스트 고스트가 나타나면서 일이 꼬여간다.

곤충 연구가인 한 교사가 표본 수집을 하기 위해 모래 지대를 돌아다니다, 지역 주민의 소개로 어느 여인이 혼자 사는 집에서 묵게 된다. 다음날 이 집을 떠나려 하던 그는 땅위로 올라갈 사다리가 없어진 것으로 보고 놀란다. 1964년 칸 영화제 수상작으로 인간의 실존적 조건을 예리하게 묘사한 작품이다. 아베 고보의 소설을 영화화 하였다.

뉴욕에 원인을 알 수 없는 병원균이 확산된다. 많은 사람들이 죽어가게 되는데 특히 이 병은 어린이에게 치명적이다. 이 질병은 바퀴벌레에 의해 균이 옮겨진다는 것만 밝혀졌을 뿐 치료약이 없다. 벌레의 확산을 막기 위해 뉴욕 주립대 곤충학 교수인 수잔(미라 소비노)은 흰개미와 사마귀의 합성 유전자로 새로운 종을 만들어낸다. '유다'라는 이름의 이 생물체로 인해 바퀴벌레는 박멸되고 더 이상 희생자는 나오지 않게 된다. 그로부터 3년 뒤 수잔은 동네에서 자신이 만든 유다의 새끼를 발견하고 경악한다. 유다 종은 생식 능력이 없고 수명도 6개월로 제한됐기 때문이다.

바닷가 작은 마을에서 엄마, 아빠와 행복하게 살고 있던 어린 소년 제임스. 아빠는 제임스의 생일날 곧 이사가게 될 뉴욕의 사진을 보여주며 행복해한다. 그러나 제임스의 부모는 동물원을 탈출한 코뿔소에게 사고를 당하고, 졸지에 고아가 된 제임스는 이모들에게 맡겨진다. 제임스의 이모 스파이커와 스폰지는 신데렐라의 계모를 능가할 정도의 고약한 심술꾼들. 이모들은 어린 제임스에게 힘든 집안 청소에서부터 온갖 잡일을 시키며 제임스를 괴롭힌다. 이모들의 학대에 힘들고 외로운 나날을 보내던 제임스는 어려울 때마다 아빠가 남겨준 뉴욕 여행 책자를 보면서 꿈과 희망을 잃지 않는다. 그러던 어느날 제임스는 정원에서 마법사 아저씨를 만나게 되고 마법사는 신비한 마법의 약을 건네며 약을 먹으면 신비한 일이 일어날 것이라고 말하고 사라진다. 마법의 약을 받고 놀래서 급하게 뛰어가던 제임스는 그만 넘어지고, 마법의 약은 죽은 복숭아 나무 아래에 쏟아진다. 그런데 마법의 약이 쏟아진 뒤 죽은 복숭아 나무에는 열매가 열리고 집보다 더 큰 거대한 복숭아 나무가 된다. 제임스는 다행히 마법의 약을 담았던 봉투에서 마지막 남은 한 알을 먹게 되고, 거대한 복숭아 안으로 들어가게 되는데.... 복숭아 안으로 들어간 제임스는 그곳에서 베짱이 할아버지, 지네 아저씨, 지렁이 아저씨, 무당벌레 아줌마, 반딧불 부인, 거미 누나를 만나 친구가 된다. 그리고 곤충 친구들과 함께 복숭아를 타고 바다 건너 꿈의 도시 뉴욕에 가기 위한 모험을 시작하는데.

유명한 영화 배우 폴 콜비노의 딸인 제니퍼가 뉴욕에서 스위스의 취리히 공항에 도착, 가정 교사인 브루크너와 함께 리하르트 바그너 국제 여학교 기숙사로 향한다. 제니퍼는 곤충과 대화할 수 있는 특이한 능력을 가진 소녀였다. 한편 경찰은 연이어 일어나는 살인 사건으로 고민하던 중 유명한 곤충학자 맥그레거 박사에게 도움을 청한다. 그는 시체의 머리에서 발견되는 파리가 범인을 찾아 낼 거라는 막연한 확신을 갖고 제니퍼의 초능력에 깊은 관심을 보인다. 제니퍼는 어느 날 밤 반딧불의 인도를 받아 사건의 단서인 장갑을 발견하는데, 장갑에서 파리 유충을 발견한다. 맥그레거 박사는 그 유충이 시체에만 자생한다는 것을 제니퍼에게 알려주는데..

미이일 통신 센터의 직원들이 몰살당하는 사고가 발생하자 슬레이터 소장은 원인 규명을 위해 현장에 출동했다가 곤충학자인 크레인 박사(마이클 케인 분)와 의사인 헬레나 대위(캐서린 로스 분)를 만난다. 몰살 원인이 살인 벌떼의 습격으로 밝혀지자 크레인은 사태 수습의 총 책임자로 임명되고, 면역학자 크림 박사(헨리 폰다 분)를 모셔와 해독제 제작에 몰두하게 된다.

They were constantly beset by the evil machinations of Benita Bizarre, played by comedienne Martha Raye. Bizarre, being untalented and ugly herself, was covetous of the Bugaloos' musical prowess.
