Walter Burns, giovane e simpatico direttore di un grande quotidiano, divorzia dalla moglie Hilde che tiene una prestigiosa rubrica sul giornale. La donna decide di sposare un assicuratore e per questo motivo è costretta ad abbandonare la sua collaborazione. Siccome Walter tiene molto al suo intervento, tenta in ogni modo di mandare a monte le nozze.
