Ray Cutter (John Travolta), ex bambino prodigio del mondo dell'arte e ladruncolo di seconda generazione, ottiene di uscire dal carcere per trascorrere più tempo con il figlio malato. Si ritroverà però costretto a rivedere i suoi piani e a commettere insieme al padre un ultimo grande lavoro per l'associazione criminale che ha finanziato la sua libertà anticipata.
