Piuttosto accurato, dal punto di vista storico-militare, nella descrizione della battaglia, ne rimuove sistematicamente la crudeltà e l'orrore: le morti sono tutte gloriose, pulite, istantanee, così come sono tutti valorosi, nobili e in buona fede sia gli unionisti sia i confederati.
