Zé do Caixão is an undertaker in a small Brazilian town, searching for the perfect woman to bear him a superior child. Unable to conceive with his wife, he kills her and sets out to find someone else.

Tired of the constant abuse he suffers in his household, a boy runs away from home and goes on a series of sad and dramatic adventures, in which he finds the opportunity to show the power of his own voice.

After being shot fleeing from a gunfight, the bandit Jaime falls to a riverbank, where is rescued by two beautiful young women. He becomes involved romantically with Dorothy, daughter of a farmer, and for her sake, surrenders to the police. Upon leaving the prison, Jaime has to face Xavier, a bloodthirsty villain who plans on taking revenge on Dorothy's father.
