לעת יום הולדתו ה-11 מגלה הארי פוטר שאומץ על ידי דודיו אחרי שהוריו המכשפים נספו בפיגוע קוסמות. הצלקת שעל מצחו היא עדות למלחמה שהוא עצמו נלחם בינקותו נגד רב-מג נוראי, וולדמורט. כעת איתרו אותו עמיתיו בעלי היכולות המדהימות, והם מזמינים אותו לבית הספר למכשפים בהוגוורטס.
לאחר שבילה קיץ משמים בבית דודו ודודתו, מתגעגע הארי לשוב להוגוורטס. אלא שאז מופיע בחדרו שדון מסתורי בשם דובי, המזהיר אותו מסכנות האורבות לו עם פתיחת שנת הלימודים השנייה. כשהלימודים נפתחים, מסר מיסתורי ומאיים מופיע על קירות בית הספר הוגוורטס, שגורם להארי, רון והרמיוני לצאת למסע להרפתקאה מסוכנת.

לאחר המפגש פנים אל פנים מול וולדרמורט בסרט הקודם, הארי מגלה כי שר הקסמים נוקט במדיניות של הכחשה, והארי וכל תומכיו הופכים למוקצים. בתגובה, מנהל בית הספר דמבלדור שנושל גם הוא ממרבית מסמכויותיו, מחליט להקים מחדש את "מסדר עוף החול" על מנת לפעול נגד וולדמורט.
הסרט עוקב אחר מסעותיהם של פרודו וסאם בעקבות היצור המעוות גולום לעבר הר דום שבחבליה של מורדור, שם הם מתעתדים להשמיד את הטבעת, שבידיים הלא נכונות עלולה להביא לחורבנה של הארץ התיכונה כולה. השניים לא מודעים לכך שלגולום תכניות אחרות באשר לגורלה של הטבעת.
בפתיחת הסרט וולדמורט שולט על מועצת הקוסמים ועל בית הספר הוגוורטס ומנהל משטר טוטליטרי המפלה מוגלגים (אנשים שאינם קוסמים). הארי יוצא עם הרמיוני ורון, להמשיך את מפעל חייו של דאמבלדור, ולעצור את וולדמורט מלהגדיל את כוחו באמצעות אוצרות המוות.

סיפורנו מתחיל על ספינת מורדים שמתאכסנת על ספינתו של העריץ, דארת' ויידר. העלילה נמשכת בחיים פשוטים של בחור רגיל, לוק סקייווקר, כשהוא פוגש חברים חדשים בניסיון להציל את מנהיגת המורדים הנסיכה ליאה, מידיי האימפריה. המסקנה מסתיימת בכך שהמורדים, כולל לוק סקייווקר שמומחה בלטוס עושים מתקפה על הנשק המאיים והחזק ביותר, כוכב המוות.

In 2006, Tokyopop released the manga in the United States under the name Someday's Dreamers. Someday's Dreamers was also adapted into an anime series that was produced by J.C.Staff under the direction of Masami Shimoda. It is loosely based on the storyline of the first manga series with new characters added to the story. It ran for a total of 12 episodes on TV Asahi and was later licensed by Geneon Entertainment USA. However, due to the closure of Geneon USA, the series has been relicensed by Sentai Filmworks.
