Η ταινία αφηγείται την αξιοσημείωτη ιστορία των μαχητριών Αγκότζι, μιας αποκλειστικά γυναικείας ομάδας πολεμιστριών που προστάτευαν το Αφρικανικό Βασίλειο της Δαχομέης τον 18o αιώνα. Την ηγέτιδα της ομάδας με δεξιότητες και δύναμη που όμοιά της δεν είχε ξαναδεί ο κόσμος, Στρατηγό Νανίσκα, υποδύεται η βραβευμένη με Oscar ηθοποιός Viola Davis.
