Μια δεκαετία σχεδόν μετά από τα γεγονότα της πρώτης ταινίας, η ταινία μας αφηγείται την ιστορία της οικογένειας Σάλι (του Τζέικ, της Νειτίρι και των παιδιών τους), τα προβλήματά τους, τους αγώνες που κάνουν να παραμείνουν ζωντανοί και τις τραγωδίες που βιώνουν.
Ο ήρωας της ταινίας είναι ο Τζέικ Σάλι, ένας πρώην πεζοναύτης, καθηλωμένος σε αναπηρικό καροτσάκι. Αυτό που ήθελε πάντα ο Τζέικ είναι να βρει κάτι για το οποίο να αξίζει να αγωνιστεί, και το βρίσκει σε ένα μέρος που δεν μπορούσε να φανταστεί: σε έναν μακρινό κόσμο. Ο Τζέικ έχει στρατολογηθεί για μια αποστολή στον πλανήτη Πανδώρα, ο οποίος έχει τραβήξει το ενδιαφέρον εταιρειών ανά τον κόσμο, λόγω της εκμετάλλευσης ενός ορυκτού που αξίζει 20 εκατομμύρια δολάρια το κιλό στη Γη.
Ένα μικρό αγόρι ανακαλύπτει ότι έχει υπερφυσικές δυνάμεις και ότι δεν προέρχεται από τη Γη. Ως νεαρός, θα ξεκινήσει μια εντυπωσιακή περιπέτεια, αναζητώντας τις ρίζες του και την αποστολή του σ’ αυτό τον κόσμο. Αν όμως, θέλει να σώσει τον κόσμο από τον αφανισμό και να αποτελέσει το σύμβολο της ελπίδας για την ανθρωπότητα, θα πρέπει να αφήσει τον ήρωα που κρύβει μέσα του να λάμψει.
Ο Θορ είναι φυλακισμένος στην άλλη άκρη του σύμπαντος χωρίς το τρομερό του σφυρί. Πρέπει να νικήσει το χρόνο για να επιστρέψει στον πλανήτη Άσγκαρντ και να σταματήσει το Ράγκναροκ δηλαδή την καταστροφή του πλανήτη του και του πολιτισμού του, από τα χέρια μιας νέας, παντοδύναμης απειλής, της αδίστακτης Χέλα. Πρώτα όμως πρέπει να στεφθεί νικητής μιας θανάσιμης μονομαχίας ενάντια στον πρώην σύμμαχό του και επίσης Εκδικητή – τον Απίθανο Χαλκ!
Μία ομάδα επίλεκτων μαχητών τοποθετούνται σε έναν εξωγήινο πλανήτη ως… θηράματα. Όλα τα μέλη της ομάδας είναι δολοφόνοι - μισθοφόροι, κατάδικοι, μέλη της Γιακούζα - εκτός από έναν ατιμασμένο γιατρό. Οι ανθρώπινοι αυτοί "κυνηγοί" θα πρέπει να επιβιώσουν στον γεμάτο κινδύνους πλανήτη, ενώ μια νέα γενιά εξωγήινων Κυνηγών βρίσκεται στα ίχνη τους με στόχο να τους εξολοθρεύσει.
Στον 28ο αιώνα, ο Βαλέριαν και η Λορελίν είναι υπεύθυνοι για τη διατήρηση της τάξης σε όλες τις ανθρώπινες περιοχές. Ακολουθώντας τις εντολές του Υπουργού Αμύνης οι δύο νέοι ξεκινούν για μία αποστολή στην εκπληκτική πόλη Άλφα, μία αναπτυσσόμενη Μητρόπολη, όπου τα είδη από ολόκληρο το σύμπαν μοιράζονται γνώσεις, ευφυΐα και πολιτισμούς. Υπάρχει ένα μυστήριο στο κέντρο του Άλφα, μία σκοτεινή δύναμη, η οποία απειλεί την ειρηνική συμβίωση της Πόλης των Χιλίων Πλανητών, και ο Βαλέριαν με τη Λορελίν πρέπει να αγωνιστούν προκειμένου να εντοπίσουν την απειλή και να προστατεύσουν, όχι μόνο τον Άλφα, αλλά και ολόκληρο τον κόσμο. Θα καταφέρουν, άραγε, να διατηρήσουν την ειρήνη στους πλανήτες και να διαχειριστούν τη μεταξύ τους σχέση;
Ο μοχθηρός Μινγκ βάζει στόχο την καταστροφή της Γης. Ο Φλας και η γοητευτική ερωμένη του θα κάνουν τα πάντα για να αποτρέψουν αυτό το ενδεχόμενο. Το διάστημα μετατρέπεται σε πεδίο μάχης και η περιπέτεια ξεκινά...
O Leo Davidson, ένας Αμερικανός αστροναύτης, είναι υπεύθυνος εκπαίδευσης μιας νέας γενιάς πιλότων. Οι πιλότοι αυτοί είναι πίθηκοι, που μαθαίνουν να οδηγούν μικρά διαστημόπλοια. Κατά τη διάρκεια μιας τέτοιας αναγνωριστικής πτήσης προς έναν άγνωστο πλανήτη, το μικρό διαστημόπλοιο χάνει την επαφή του με τον πύργο ελέγχου. Έτσι ο Leo βγαίνει ο ίδιος στο διάστημα για να βρει το χαμένο όχημα. Οι άσχημες συνθήκες όμως θα τον αναγκάσουν να κάνει αναγκαστική προσγείωση σ’ έναν παράξενο πλανήτη. Εκεί θα βρεθεί παγιδευμένος σ’ έναν τόπο τραχύ και πρωτόγονο, χωρίς ίχνος προηγμένου πολιτισμού. Δεν θα αργήσει όμως να ανακαλύψει ότι στον πλανήτη αυτό οι πίθηκοι έχουν τον έλεγχο, ενώ οι άνθρωποι είναι κυνηγημένοι και σκλαβωμένοι.
Παγιδευμένος σε έναν μακρινό πλανήτη με το διαστημόπλοιο και το πλήρωμά του, ο αστροναύτης Μπαζ Λάιτγιαρ προσπαθεί να βρει τρόπο να επιστρέψει στη Γη. Καθώς όμως γυρίζει στη βάση του, έπειτα από ακόμα μία προσπάθεια να πιάσει την υπερταχύτητα, τον περιμένει μια δυσάρεστη έκπληξη.
