Teenagepigen Torrance Shipman må indse, at det er langt mere krævende at være leder af heppekoret på hendes high school i San Diego, end hun havde forestillet sig. En af pigerne på Torrance's hold bliver skadet, så hun erstattes med Missy, en ny og ret kynisk pige. Missy har kun søgt ind i heppekoret, fordi skolen ikke har andre gymnastik-tilbud.

Shawn Colfax og Nick Brady er stjernerne på Gerald R. Ford High Schools amerikanske fodboldhold. I stedet for at tage på fodboldlejr, så lister de sig med på en lejrtur for cheerleadere.
