Splatterová komedie Re-Animátor je jedním z rozkošně zmutovaných a agresivních dítek módy ultrabrutálních hororů z počátku osmdesátých let. Dnes už klasické žánrové dílo o zapáleném experimentátorovi Herbertu Westovi, který ve jménu vědy vyrábí násilnické zombie, vzalo elementy klasických hororů třicátých a šedesátých let (šílení vědci a jejich tajuplné substance s magickými účinky) s novou zálibou v excesivní tělesnosti, krvavých efektech a černém humoru. Těžko říct, jestli by se film líbil mistru kultivované „kosmické hrůzy“ H. P.
