Paraula clau Wing Chun

Una banda de criminals dirigida per un constructor molt ambiciós (Mike Tyson) intenta desallotjar l’escola local però el mestre Ip Man (Donnie Yen) no està disposat a cedir. Paral·lelament, a la ciutat, acaba d’arribar un nou mestre de Wing Chun (Zhang Jin).

A Foshan als anys trenta un respectat mestre de Wing Chun, combina l'estudi de les arts marcials amb els combats ocasionals que es veu forçat a fer per satisfer als seus admiradors. Són temps de prosperitat, però la guerra amb el Japó amenaça amb posar fi. Amb l'ocupació japonesa esclatarà la tragèdia i n'Ip man es veurà obligat a defensar l'honor del seu poble. N'Ip man (conegut com Yip Man), va ser mestre i mentor de Bruce Lee.

The story is based on the historic martial art legend Hung Hei-gun (Donnie Yen) in the Qing dynasty. In the final stand Hung Hei-gun and Fong Sai-yuk (Nick Cheung) fight their way to defend the Shaolin Monastery against the invading army of the Qianlong emperor who was trying to get rid of oppositions. Qianlong was also afraid to reveal that he was not a true manchu.

Kung fu has a long history in China, with many different schools, such as Wudang, Shaolin, Wing Chun, etc. Each episode of this RTHK documentary series interviews a grandmaster of different style, where they demonstrate actual combat and discuss the nature of their martial art.
