The plot revolves around the early days of Islam. When Prophet Muhammed gets his first revelation, the slaves are the first to believe him. Mecca’s notable residents torture the Muslim slaves to force them into giving up their beliefs. Ebu Cehil’s daughter, Zehra, is also one of these Muslims. Zehra’s beloved, Mesut, takes her to the quarry along with the slaves to be tortured. But through Zehra’s efforts, Mesut also converts to Islam. A family migrates to Istanbul from the rural parts of Anatolia, and they bring their traditions with them. The men of the family are giving away the girls of the family in return for a hefty bride-price. Zelha, one of the girls, revolts against this attitude and tries to save her sisters.

The struggles of a migrant Anatolian family to adapt to and survive in the very different conditions of urban Istanbul. Sim Sala Bim is about a funny chain of events experienced by İsmail Dümbüllü upon his arrival in Istanbul. He has a job at a theater company, but the manager fires him for slacking off at work. He sets out for Istanbul with plans to meet with his girlfriend Aysel and arrives in the city following a rather eventful journey. Accompanied by his friend Rasih, Dümbüllü goes in and out of jobs while tracking down his girlfriend in the big city. Just as everything seems to go against him, a genie in his dream gives him a magic wand which will prove to be highly useful.
