قصة الفيلم: يعود بنا الفيلم إلى أيام الجامعة عندما كان مايك وازوسكي (صوت بيللي كريستال) وحشاً صغيراً يحلم بأنيصبح مخيفاً، خاصة وهو يعتقد أنه أفضل مخيف في جامعة الوحوش، ولكن خلال الفصل الدراسي الأول له في الجامعة،تتغير خطط مايك بعد أن التقى بالبارع جيمس بي سوليفان (صوت جون جودمان) الذي وُلد مخيفاً بشكل طبيعي،التنافس بين الاثنين يخرج عن السيطرة ويكون السبب في طردهما من جامعة النخبة المرعبة، وتصبح الأمورأسوأ عندما يُضطران إلى العمل معاً، جنباً إلى جنب مع مجموعة غريبة من الوحوش الماهرة.

محاصرة في مزرعة عائلتها المعزولة ، يجب على بيرل أن ترعى والدها المريض تحت المراقبة المريرة والمتعجرفة لوالدتها المتدينة. تتوق بيرل إلى حياة براقة كما شوهدت في الأفلام ، وتتصادم طموحات بيرل وإغراءاتها وقمعها.

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول جون فورم وزوجته ميا، حيث يوفق جون في العثور على هدية مميزة لزوجته الحامل، وهي عبارة عن عروسة قديمة ونادرة ترتدي فستانًا ناصع البياض. لكن انجذاب ميا لهذه العروسة لم يدم طويلا، ففي ليلة رهيبة يتم احتلال بيتهما بواسطة مجموعة من عبدة الشيطان الذين اعتدوا بعنف عليهما. وهو ليس آخر شيء يفعله هؤلاء؛ حيث يقومون باستحضار إحدى الأرواح الشريرة التي لا تُقهر وهي (أنابيل)
